To be eligible for full time enrollment, students must be between 17 and 21 years old, have attended high school for four or more years, and have earned 17 or more credits. Typical YABC students are between 18 and 20, and in their 5th year of high school. YABC staff take into consideration a combination of age, years in school, number of credits earned and number of Regents exams passed when determining student eligibility.
To be eligible for shared instruction, students must be in their 3rd year of high school or later, and can enroll in up to three evening/afternoon courses with YABC. Shared instruction students continue to take a full load of classes at their home school during the day while attending YABC in the evening.
How to Enroll:
Due to COVID-19, our procedures have changed. Please read carefully. Students who wish to register at Flushing YABC should contact the guidance counselor at their current high school and discuss the benefits of YABC. Once eligibility has been determined and the student has agreed that transferring is the best option, the guidance counselors should follow the following procedures:
YABC Guidance Referral Form (Y-1 for Full Time, S-1 for Shared Instruction) below
YABC Course Requirements Form (Y-2 for Full time, S-2 for Shared Instruction) below
A copy of student's current transcript (in permanent record format)
Current ISS or ENL documentation (IEP or NYSESLAT scores if applicable)
Attendance record (ATS RISA)
Links to fillable Y1, Y2, S1 & S2 forms are below.
Once we have received all documentation, a staff member will contact the student to schedule an intake appointment. All appointments are being made and conducted remotely. Please be sure to provide a current working student phone number and email address. Eligible students who are not currently enrolled in a high school must contact their most recent school of enrollment, or contact a borough referral center to be enrolled in a high school before transferring into a YABC program.
